Day 144- My Most Boring Day On The Trail

Aug 23, 2015
Hogan Road(1891.6) 0 Miles

Today is all about resting my poor ankle. I'm not sure what else to do, but Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation(RICE). After being active for over twelve hours per day, laying around all day is torture. Things might be easier if I had wifi, but that is not an option unless I walk a quarter of a mile to Dunkin Donuts. I've packed and unpacked my bag half a dozen times, repaired holes and tears in my gear, planned out the rest of my trip, and I've read two books. One of the books I read was pretty good. It was written by the previous AT record holder, Jennifer Pharr Davis. Becoming Odyssa, is the story of her first thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. I enjoyed reading her prospective about the things I have seen and experienced.

After having so many days off my hiker hunger has finally been satisfied. I'll spare everyone the boring details from my day. Instead of giving you the commentary of laying in bed all day, I thought it would be fun to post a few of my favorite pictures from along my journey.

Day 1... All squeaky clean and nervous to begin
View from Blood Mountain, GA
View from Rocky Top, the only view I got from the Smokies

You didn't say if you're feeling that the ankle is responding to RICE - I certainly hope so!!!

  3. That's a great idea...Memory Lane and Yes I enjoyed it. RICE yep a term I learned when becoming a ski patroler. When my son rolled his ankle he was a couple weeks and than he was able to return to B-Ball play with a air cast. But had to continue wearing it for a year during any activity. Looks like Airlock will be in town soon and hopefully you can get back to hiking with her. You new slowed pace will be just about right for her ;)

  4. Really enjoyed the pictures in review. That should have helped pass some time. Excited that you and Airlock are going to hike together again. Just hope the ankle is well enough to start trail again. You have a tough area too still get through. Take it easy and I'm glad you are caught up on your blogs!! Have missed reading even though we have been talking
