Day 10- Zero Day in Breckenridge

Wednesday August 19, 2020
Total Miles: 146.5
Elevation: 9,199ft

Sleeping in a bunk room at a hostel can be a noisy affair. People snore, fart, and cough all night long. I was really lucky last night and didn’t have to deal with any of that. I slept until 7:30 and felt very refreshed when I got up. I decided to skip the free breakfast the hostel offered. It was just prepackaged muffins and sad looking bananas, plus I was still full from all of the yummy food I ate yesterday. Check out was at 10 o’clock, but they said I could hang out as long as I wanted. I was out of my room by 9am. I went down to the common room to sort out my food for the next section. A lot of what I sent myself went straight into the hiker box. I had sent too much since I’m doing more than 15 miles per day, plus without my hiker hunger I knew I didn’t need so much food per day.
Check in for the condo I rented for today wasn’t until 4pm. I called them to see if I could get an early check in and was informed that that would do their best and call me back. While I was waiting my mom called to chat for a little bit. As we were talking the property management company called to let me know my room was ready.

The Bivvi Hostel

I left the hostel and went to run a few errands on my way to checking into the condo. The first thing on my agenda was to see about getting a replacement strap for my trekking pole. I went to the outfitters that I visited last time I was in town. I remembered how well they took care of me in 2018. They told me that Black Diamond has had the straps on back order for months, but one of the guys who worked there thought he could rig up a replacement. I was very impressed with his ingenuity. Plus he only charged me $11.

Mountain Outfitters in Breckenridge

After I finished up at the outfitter I went to go find the office building where I had to check into the condo. It was only a few blocks away, but on the way there it started to rain. I found shelter at a restaurant called Downstairs at Eriks. I decided to grab lunch while I was there. They weren’t seating inside due to Covid, but it had stopped raining already and I got a table outside on Main St. I ordered a French onion soup and a beer. While I was waiting for the soup to be delivered I decided I didn’t want to have to go back out for dinner, so I ordered a small pizza togo.

After lunch I found the property management company and got checked into the condo, which was only a few blocks away. I was settled in by 3pm. I didn’t feel like taking a nap and all of my typical town chores were done. I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening watching tv and eating pizza. All in all it was a very relaxing zero day.

  1. I remember Mountain Outfitters replacing a pair of socks for you in 2018. Tv & pizza sounds very relaxing.
