Slideshow Springer Mountain to Standing Bear Hostel










Over the next several days I plan on uploading nine slideshows covering my entire thru-hike. I had added some really great music to go along with the pictures, but I just found out that YouTube will not allow copyrighted music. I hope you enjoy the pictures. I took over 6,000 and a only a small portion made it into my daily blog posts.

    A great look back----I appreciate your talents both as a photographer, and journalist.
    I heard some beautiful music that fit the slide show perfectly .I am curious to know the name of the song, and vocalist-? coming home?
    How did your friends HVAC and Lorax make out on the trail?

      Hi, Kathy. Thanks so much for being such a loyal viewer. I'm glad to hear that Jokes successfully completed his thru-hike. The music was just a generic song from Apple Imovie, It is called A Horse Is Not A Home, by Miike Snow. I had better music selected, including Bob Dylan's The Times Are A Changing, but YouTube will not allow copyrighted material. HVAC and Lorax made it to Harper's Ferry before deciding to just section hike some of the good parts. They spent the remainder of the hiking season visiting friends and family and enjoying day hikes and car camping. It was nice to see them again at Mt. Greylock. I will continue to post more videos over the next few weeks. I also plan on doing a gear review and some final trail stats and thoughts.

    yup. too bad about the music...but still...that was fun...kinda emotional too. How you doing with that? Maybe staying busy and plans for the PCT? I'm looking forward to the next slide shows...thanks for sharing:)

      It's good to hear from you. It has definitely been an emotional month. I miss all of my trail family, but obsessively looking at all of my pictures seems to help. I haven't really started planning the PCT yet. I've been too busy being lazy lol

    Yoda, Amazin pictures. Love how it shows how barren the foliage is when you start in Georgia. Can't wait for the rest!! Update or don't update, there is no try(in my best Yoda voice). I wouldn't have a clue how to put together such an amazing slide show. Two thumbs up👍👍!!

      Heeeeeey Soda Pop,
      The slideshow part is actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it. My main problem was my computer kept crashing and not saving any of my progress. I think I have that figured out now(knock on wood). I have a MacBook Pro and the editing software is top notch.

    Great slideshow, and the music came through also. Great photography, you captured the beauty and vastness of the mountains and the subtle seasonal change going on during that portion of your trip. Thanks for sharing this! Steve
    PS: Glad your Gators are having a good season so far, hope the QB situation doesn't drag the season down. Best of luck at LSU tomorrow night.

      Yeah, LSU is always a tough opponent. Hopefully the QB situation doesn't hamstring us too much. I forgot how beautiful the Southern Appalachian Range was during the early spring. I would like to get out and experience it during the fall, but I'm not sure if that will happen. I'll have more videos loaded in the next few days.

    So glad to see the update and slideshow - wow, it's fabulous! Thanks for taking the time and getting back to us! Anxious to see you soon! We just got back from a week in North Carolina mountains - I have so much respect for what you've accomplished. You are truly amazing!!! I'm looking forward to your final post and the remaining slideshows - you're a great photographer! Also can't wait to read your all your data and reviews!

    I knew it. Your photos are every it what I hoped we would get to see. I enjoyed this first installment of the slideshow and watched it a couple times to enjoy it's beauty. Many of the sections I section hiked this summer and it looks so different in the winter setting. A nice combination of scenery, people, markings, and places of interest. Photos are always a big part of a hike for me and getting to look back at them is always a glorious reflection of why I hike.
