Day 113- The Williamstown Vortex

July 23, 2015
Williamstown, MA

Let me apologize in advance for a really boring blog post. I woke up this morning and just didn't feel like hiking. I've been pushing really hard for the last month and I think it has finally caught up with me. I just needed one day where I didn't do anything and that's exactly what I did today.

I ate breakfast at the hotel and inquired about staying for one more night. They were all booked up though. I went back to my room to pack things up and to head back out to the trail, but my heart just wasn't in it. I decided to check with the Williamstown Motel, I stayed there Tuesday, to see if they had any vacancy. I was in luck as they had one room remaining.

I checked in, got into bed, and watched tv for a few hours. After I finished watching a movie I went to Dunkin Donuts for lunch. Thanks, Allison, for the gift card.

I spent the remainder of the day watching movies on my phone and looking at what's coming up on the trail. The only other time I left my room was to get subway for dinner. Thanks, Cynthia for the Subway gift card.

After a full day of lounging around and watching tv/movies, I am really excited to get back on trail in the morning. One full day of being a bum is enough for me. By 4:00, I was really bored. I think I just needed to hit the reset button.

Tomorrow will be a great day. I finish up Massachusetts, start into Vermont, and I'll cross the 1,600 mile mark. By taking another zero day my friends behind me are only one day behind. I'm hoping they will catch up to me soon. I think they will be an awesome group to go through the Whites with. Hurry up, Outro, Adios, and China Rock!

To make up for my boring day, I'll leave you with some fun information.

  1. Boring? I like all your fun facts! I'm also glad you realized you needed the extra day and did something about it. I hope your friends catch up. It's always more fun and motivating to be around your friends. Sending you a little something for your birthday with Arlene and Dan, and hoping they can hookup with you.

  2. I also liked your facts. You've hiked hard and I think a second zero day was good for you. We even got to have another phone visit today! So now that your bored, get your hiking shoes on and hit the trail. I do hope the others catch up to you before you hit the Whites. It will make me and you feel better to have others that you've hiked with before. Hopefully, the hotel guy is good for his word to drive you to trail head in the morning. As always, be safe. LY

Happy Late birthday to you. Your special treats were so fun to see and I can only imagine how special it was to enjoy opening the packages and looking at your loot all spread out.

You are continuing to inspire me as I'm planing my journey for 2016 along the AT

  4. I agree...fun facts and you have NEVER been boring.
Once when hiking with the blahs a fellow hiker suggested a non-fat zero day...he suggested that the high fat hiker meals while great for calories, takes its toll on the liver and blood's ability to transport oxygen...don't know the science, but a fruit salad weekend really helped. But, ya know, I think I might try a movie day next time...I am sure your tired body loves you for it.
