Day 20- May the Fourth Be With You

Friday May 04, 2018
Side of Dirt Road(445.2) to Cebolla Alternate(452.6) to Picnic area of of Rt 117(18.8) 26.2 Miles Total: 374.5

On Star Wars Day write my blog in Yoda speak do I. Long and tiring it gets. Lots to say about the happenings of today, yes hmmm.

Woke up this morning freezing it was. Forgot did I to sleep with my Sawyer filter. Huge, stupid, costly mistake did I make. Ruined the filter is. Buy a new one I must. Pulled to the dark side I almost was. Overcame the anger did I.

Hiking before 7am Turtle and I were. Good time to a water source did we make. Dead crow in the water found we. Drank that water we did not. Another water source was there.

Shiloh and Mangus caught up to us when we were leaving, yes hmmm. Different plans for the hike had they. Convoluted paved road walks in their future I foresaw. Follow them down that hard lonely path we could not.

7.3 dirt road miles leads to anger

Cebolla alternate route is the path to the light. 4.5 miles of trail to be had. Off the dirt road will it lead us. Shiloh and Mangus forged a dark path of their own, yes hmmm. 8 miles of paved road planned they to walk. Hitchhike to town Shiloh did. Find a dentist he must. Tooth pain and suffering did I sense. Make up the missing miles he shall. Decide Mangus to walk the highway until meeting back with the trail, hmmmm.
Turtle started down the alternate path alone he did. Longer break required I. Pain and suffering of my foot was I experiencing. Stretch did I. Healed by the force my foot was. Guided by the force the alternate was crushed by me. Alternate route through Cebolla Canyon amazing views were seen. Good afternoon it was. Pictures you shall see below.

Sand Canyon

Trees and clouds a happy Jedi do they make

Pueblo stone house dated to 1200AD added onto in 1400, yes hmmmm

Petroglyph dated to 1200AD

Happy to not drink this was I

Back to dirt road hiking I was

Volcanic activity we approached

Completed the day by walking 6 miles on pavement, yes hmmmm. Pain and suffering of feet continue it will. Tomorrow hike 22 paved miles my feet will. Happy I will not be. Camped are we in a picnic area alongside the highway. Picnic tables, trash cans, pit toilets happy they make us. Warmer this night is. Sleepy am I. Enjoy the post you must.

Pure luxury was it

Decide on one quote I could not.

“All his life he looked away...to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm?  What he was doing.”
- Yoda

“In a dark place we find ourselves, and a little more knowledge lights our way”
- Yoda

“You will find only what you bring in”
- Yoda

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.”
- Yoda

  2. Wow was the Yoda speak. Take you long, no doubt. The dark path followed you did not, to winding path and light Yoda seek. As the crow flew you drink not. No more for me, that’s tough. Glad you are ok and still with others. Are you ordering the new filter? Talk to you soon.LU loved your quotes.

  5. Hey Yoda! I just recently found out you were on the CDT and have binge-read your entries to get caught up. I followed you on the PCT and AT hikes and was very excited to see you are completing the Triple Crown. I also wanted to let you know that the information you gave me about tent vs hammock was spot on (you may not remember, but we emailed back and forth when I was preparing for my 2017 AT thru hike). Finally, the advice you gave me concerning the Z-Packs Altaplex was also spot-on. It is my go-to tent now whenever I venture out. -Beaker

    1. I absolutely remember. I’m glad my tips helped you out. I read and enjoyed your trail journal. Congrats on hiking the hardest of the triple crown trails. Let me now when you do the pct. Once thruhiking gets in your blood it is hard to stop after one. Best wishes

  6. Glad the force was with you on Friday. Hope you get a new filter soon too. What got it? I’m also glad the fourth is over and we don’t have to ready Yoda speak anymore. It’s hard to read, I’m sure hard to write. 🤣

    1. Yoda speak is harder to write lol
The cold was the killer. The membrane inside can’t handle freezing temps and I forgot to bring it to bed with me.

  8. It is looking awesome to go on. There have to walk more to see the unseen. You should use walking stick to help you to keep less pressure on the leg. It will also help you to avoid serious injury.
